Mood Scent 4 Made For Me Perfumes

It is Mood Scent 4 Time again! Our monthly blogging project where Portia, (on A Bottled Rose) , Sam  (I Scent You A Day) and Megan (Megan In St Maxime) write about a different subject linking perfume to mood or occasion. This time we picked Made For Me, those perfumes which suit us perfectly and feel as if they were made for us personally. Due to personal circumstances in the family Sam had to skip this month, my thoughts are with her and her family.

One of the Made For Me fragrances is Guerlain Shalimar. It is one of the perfumes which feel custom made, like a pair of shoes where the hard black rough leather took some months to get soft and comfortable as Shalimar took me several months to appreciate when I first started wearing it.  Sparkling green Bergamot lemon. smooth floral Rose and Jasmine, seductive balsamic Opopanax, comforting Vanilla, powdery Iris and Tonka Bean make Shalimar very soothing and relaxing. Although Shalimar was made in 1925 it feels custom made for me and I like to wear vintage dry body oil in the evening before going to bed.

April Aromatics Ray Of Light is sunlight in a bottle on dark rainy days. Ray of Light feels custom made on those grey days as it ticks all the right boxes to uplift me with bright crisp green lime, sweet vibrant yellow lemon and bitter green accents reminiscent of the leaves of the lemon tree. These citrus fruits make this a very uplifting fragrance for those days when you could use some encouragement. Ray of Light is an all natural cheerful fragrance made by Berlin based perfumer Tanja Bochnig.

Angela Flanders Cashmere Noir is another fragrance which fits like a glove. It feels as if it was made especially for me as it contains all my favourite notes; sweet heliotrope, powdery iris, resinous tolu and warming strengthening cedar wood. Cashmere Noir is straightforward  and feels like wearing a soft light grey comfortable cashmere sweater on colder autumn days.

These are my 3 picks for Made For Me Perfumes. Have a look on Megan’s blog  Megan in St. Maxime  and Portia on A Bottled Rose to read their choices. I hope Sam is able to write next month and wish her and her family well.

I Love To Hear From You
There have been some troubles with leaving comments before.  I do hope you are able to leave your choice for Made For Me fragrances. Those perfumes which feel as if they were specifically made for you. I love to hear from you.

Disclosure: All photographs were made by me. The perfumes were bought by me as well. I was lucky to win an April Aromatics Sample set several years ago on a Facebook contest.

How To Pick The Perfect Summer Scent

With summer in its way other fragrances might be more appropriate than the ones you having been wearing during wintertime. It can be a good moment to start wearing other more suited summer fragrances like tropical florals, refreshing citrus or beach fragrances.

Try exotic flowers

Try fragrances with exotic flowers like ylang ylang, tiare, tuberose or fragrances with milky coconut undertones. The combination of tuberose and coconut can be found in Killian Beyond Love. Another more creamy tuberose is the budget friendly but discontinued Madonna Truth or Dare. The recently released Dusita Le Douceur de Siam is a beautiful tropical creamy rose ylang ylang fragrance and very well suited for summer. Tiare and coconut can be found in the recently discontinued but still available Guerlain Terracotta Le Parfum, Estée Lauder Bronze Goddess and Nicolai Createur Juste Un Reve.

Freshen up with citrus

Another good choice is to freshen up on hotter days with fragrances which contain lemon, neroli or bergamot.  Heeley Oranges and Lemons Say The Bells of St. Clements, the natural and organic April Aromatics Ray of Light or the longer lasting Le Galion Whip are excellent choices if you like lemon in a fragrance. The refreshing Annick Goutal Neroli Cologne or Yves Rocher Secrets d’Essences Neroli are good choices when you are looking for a neroli scent. The zesty green Martin Marghiela Untitled L’Eau is my personal favorite for those very hot days with notes of lemon, mint and mandarin.

Go to the beach

Salty fragrances like Laboratorio Olfattivo Salina give the impression of being at the seaside which can be very suited on those warmer days. If you like the scent of sun lotion you can choose Nicolai Createur Musc Monoi which was inspired by the scent of Ambre Solaire sunscreen lotion.

Do you have favorite summer fragrances? Which one is your favorite?

Perfume Review: 4160 Tuesdays The Sexiest Scent on the Planet. (IMHO)

The Satyr and Nymph

The Sexiest scent on the Planet IMHO (The Sexiest) starts of with a very fresh citrus note, probably bergamot, which I like. To continue with the woody pine (some say cedarwood to me it smells like pine) and a very sweet and I mean very sweet vanilla, lemon meringue. The Guerlain Shalimar lemon meringue accord is an accord I am very fond of. But the lemon meringue note in The Sexiest, is too sweet for my taste.  This smells more like the vanilla in Guerlain Jicky, which I am not too fond of.

The Sexiest feels to me like a very modern wink to two iconic Guerlains Jicky and Shalimar. Personally I prefer Shalimar as I find Jicky much too sweet. On my skin The Sexiest behaved more like Jicky and on paper like Shalimar. Just to be clear here, I see The Sexiest as a wink to Shalimar and Jicky. Maybe it was inspired  by it, like a free modern interpretation of these two Guerlain fragrance.

Bottom line, does it radiate sex ? Not in my opinion. The painting shown at the beginning Satyr and Nymph (from 1623) does. But if you associate a Finnish sauna with sex you might associate The Sexiest with sex. And steam. The Finns will not agree.*

Notes: Gin, bergamot, vanilla, woods, musk, ambergris ( according to Lucky Scent)

Painting: Satyr and Nymph to be seen at The Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam.

*Note: the official travel guide of Finland clearly mentions on its website, in the article 10 sauna tips for beginners, that sauna has nothing to do with sex. Funny they mention this so clearly.
